Working in Malaysia

Securing a work visa is crucial for expatriates and foreign nationals seeking employment in Malaysia. The approval of this document is a mandatory requirement to work legally in the country.

Various types of work visas cater to different circumstances, taking into account factors such as salary, employment duration, and qualifications. The primary categories of work visas include:

  • Employment Pass (EP): Typically granted to individuals with specialized skills, such as technical or managerial expertise. This pass is applicable for those with a valid employment contract lasting a minimum of 5 years.

  • Temporary Employment Pass (TEP): Issued to expatriates with employment periods of less than 2 years and/or a salary below RM5000.

  • Professional Visit Pass (PVP): Temporary pass issued for a maximum of 12 months. It is sought by individuals employed by an organization in their home country but required to visit Malaysia for work-related purposes.

To be eligible for a Malaysian work permit, candidates must meet specific criteria, including:

Candidates must be 27 years old and above, with an exception in the IT sector where applicants are required to be a minimum of 23 years old.

Applicants must possess a valid passport with at least 18 months of remaining validity.

CMAS Worldwide is dedicated to simplifying this process for candidates by guiding and facilitating the application procedure through the official Expatriate Service Division (ESD) website under the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
